Pink Salt Lake elopement in northern Utah

There are plenty of great places to elope in northern Utah. If you’re considering a pink Salt Lake elopement you’re clearly couple who is an unique as the location itself. Imagine standing on the edge of what feels like the end of the world where the earth turns a soft, dusty rose and the horizon simply disappears into a pale pink haze. It’s quiet, otherworldly, and feels like a standing on the edge of a portal. The Salt Lake gets its pink hue from salt loving microorganisms which leave the lake with those iconic pink and purples hues.

When to elope here

The best time to plan your pink salt late elopement is late summer to early fall (August to September) to truly get the best chance of pink water. I recommend timing your ceremony for sunrise or close to sunset. When the light becomes soft and perfect for those quiet, intimate moments. The pink Lake is located over to an hour to the closest town, so make your gas tank is full before heading out. Because it is in the middle of nowhere and the last 20 miles all gravel roads the crowds don’t get too bad giving you that privacy you crave!

embrace the wind

There is a wildness here. The wind can pick up to high speeds at a moments notice. I love taking those windy moments and finding the joy in them! Imagine racing each other down the coast line hand in hand as the wind teases your hair. Breathing in the scent of the water. The ground underfoot is textured and raw making an immersive experience that reminds you how small and how important your union is in the vastness of everything.

This isn’t your typical beach. Instead of sand the lake swaps the traditional shoreline for a salt crust. The walk to the waters edge is a thick sometimes uneven crust of salt. For shoes lean into the adventure with a cute pair of hiking boots like Chacos or Timerlands. This way you don’t risk twisting your ankle on the uneven salt. There’s something incredibly romantic about a bride in a flowing gown paired with salt crusted hiking boots. It says you’re here for the beauty, but you’re also here for the journey.

Nearby hiking

The area offers other hidden gems like an easy 2 mile hike to a small limestone arch that was formed over hundreds of years by lake Bonneville located only 3o min from the lake. You can add this to your elopement day and get that Moab feel, while still getting to play in a gorgeous pink lake. It’s a long enough hike to feel like an escape but also short enough that you won’t be exhausted nad sweaty for the rest of your celebration. After enjoying the arch, you can head over to the Lake to catch those surreal pink water vibes. Transitioning from desert to the glow of the water gives you two completely different worlds in one afternoon, making the whole experience feel like a true desert daydream.

Creating the Moment

There are lots of activities to enjoy at the lake. Consider packing a swimsuit and an inner tube and going for a float. Pack a small picnic with local goodies or hire a local picnic company like kure charcuterie and sublimedesigns, they will set up a luxury picnic with a cozy vibe. Don’t forget a bottle of something sparkling to pop in celebration or to enjoy. Take a slow walk on the coast as the water laps your feet under the star light. It’s a wandering, meditative path that feels like a metaphor for the life you’re starting together. Since you’re far from city lights, the sky here is massive. Ending the night wrapped in a blanket under the Milky Way is the ultimate “just us” finale.

You’ll leave with salt on your boots and a bit of the desert in your hair. It’s a tactile reminder of the day you chose to step away from the noise and choose each other in the middle of nowhere.
