What a glacier elopement looks like
Lori-Beth and Daniel are avid outdoors people so when it came to eloping in Alaska trekking the Matanuska Glacier was a no brainer for them. The glacier tour company offers both self guided and guided walks the glacier caters to all experience levels making a glacier trek perfect for anyone.
We began their elopement day by meeting our tour guides Eden and Bren who were an adorable couple who met working on the glacier They started our adventure by taking us to view glacier till at the base of the glacier which formed into a mud called silt which Eden informed us makes a great a fantastic mud mask and exfoliant that sells for a hefty price at local spas. The state owns the glacier so we were allowed to gather and take home some of the mud at no cost. the views from the glacier cannot be describe any other way than awestriking I’ve done a lot of traveling and nothing has compared to this place. Standing on the ice just offers such a peacefulness to fall over you. the only sounds around is the sound of glacier water flowing through the ice as It trickles through hidden blue caverns with a rhythmic drip.
Love at new heights
As we continued on our trek Eden used his ice axe to build us stairs to more difficult areas to reach, once we reached near the drop of the glacier we were faced with valley of ice with with ridges and an icy blue wall before use we paused our trek for awhile so Lori-Beth and Daniel could enjoy the glacier in a way that they loved. Ice climbing; They harnessed up and Daniel began using his ice axes to gain altitude on the ice while Lori-Beth stood below as belay waiting to join him at the top. As a testament to their commitment and determination the pair celebrated conquering the glacier with a cold nosed kiss at the top of the ice wall.

Once they made their descent from their ice climb we continued the trek onto to their ceremony site stopping along the way to fill our water bottles with fresh glacier water straight from the stream running along side us. As we reached a turn in the path we were surrounded with tall ice on our left and right unable to see the magnificent landscape we were about to discover around the bend. As the view opened up we were met with the most beautiful sight I’ve even had the pleasure of laying my eyes on. before us was dominated by a vertical crevasses forming a half bowl around us at the center of the ice a glassy pool of glacial meltwater provided a moment of calm amidst the rugged, frozen terrain As Lori-Beth and Daniel exchanged vows with a stellar view of Mount Marcus Baker towering above the glacier making us feel truly small highlighting the incredible scale and the raw, untouched power of the Alaskan wilderness.

The mountains are calling, but the logistics shouldn’t be. From scouting hidden glacier pools to navigating permits and finding the perfect flight-seeing route, I take the guesswork out of your day so you can focus on the “I do.” Stop dreaming about the one day and let’s start planning your elopement.
